More than 150 firefighters have been tackling a major blaze at a chemical factory in Huddersfield.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at around 1am this morning, Monday 24th May, at Grosvenor Chemicals site in Linthwaite, Huddersfield.
West Yorkshire Fire Service has said that containers containing pesticides and glue based products are were inside the building, and have advised people living in the immediate area to stay inside and to close all windows and doors.
Part of the A62 was also closed and was expected to remain shut for most of the day as a cloud of smoke from the blaze drifted toward Huddersfield town centre.
Specialists from the Environment Agency and the Health and Safety Executive have also attended the site in an attempt to control the impact of chemicals on the surrounding area.
Anyone who develops repertory problems in the area has been advised to call an ambulance, although people with general concerns have been asked to contact their local GP, or NHS Direct.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that at its height, 30 appliances were needed to tackle the blaze, which is now said to be under control.
