Fisherman rescued after vessel sinks

A fisherman was rescued by Ballycotton lifeboat after his vessel sank.

The man’s family got worried when he failed to return to harbour at 11.30pm on 9 April. Attempts were made to contact him by radio and phone, to no avail.

Ballycotton lifeboat was asked to launch at 1am,

as was the Waterford-based Coast Guard helicopter.

When close to the vessel’s last known position, the lifeboat crew spotted a red flare and the fisherman was found safe and well in a liferaft. It is understood he had been in the liferaft for about 4 hours.

He was taken aboard the lifeboat, where his condition was assessed, and landed safely in Ballycotton, where his family were
